Zitate aus Buch „Starting Strength“

Ich bin mittlerweile schon etwas weiter im Buch Starting Strength und wollte noch ein paar der schönsten Zitate aus dem Buch hier weitergeben. Wer sich für Krafttraining interessiert, der sollte sich das Buch auf jeden Fall holen!

Hier die Zitate, in keiner besonderen Reihenfolge:

A weak man is not as happy as that same man would be if he were strong.

Exercise is not a thing we do to fix a problem – it is a thing we must do anyway, a thing without which there will always be problems.

Furthermore, barbells require the individual to make these adjustments, and any other ones that might be necessary to retain control over the movement of the weight. Gerade diesen Punkt muss man als Einsteiger vielleicht ein paar Mal laut vor sich hersagen. Das gilt auch für Fitnessstudios, die kein Kniebeugen oder Kreuzheben erlauben, obwohl mir so etwas noch nicht untergekommen ist. Meistens scheitert es eher am Fehlen jeglicher Unterstützung seitens des (wahrscheinlich) mies bezahlt und ausgebildeten Personals… 🙁 Den Punkt kann man aber auf viele Situationen im täglichen Leben übertragen, ohne den Wortlaut zu sehr verändern zu müssen…

First and foremost, ALWAYS STEP BACK OUT OF THE RACK. ALWAYS. NEVER PUT THE BAR BACK IN THE RACK BY STEPPING BACKWARDS. NEVER. This cannot be done safely.

Auch hier: gesunder Menschenverstand. Wenn man die Ablage nicht sehen kann, kann man nicht ablegen.

If the squat is crazy bad, rack the bar and repeat the pre-squat procedure, focusing on the knees-out part.

Daraus folgt ständige Selbstkontrolle oder Beurteilung durch einen fähigen Trainingspartner bzw. Coach. Mittlerweile hat man ja eine Videokamera im Handy, also ist auch das Training allein im Keller keine Ausrede mehr für schlechte Technik und gefährliches Rumwurschteln.

Ich bin immer wieder erstaunt, wie viele Leute im Fitnessstudio eigentlich nur Variationen des Bankdrückens machen.

Barbells like to move in straight vertical lines, and your job is to arrange your body movements so that the bar can do this.

Das ist so ziemlich die einfachste Beschreibung, mit der man alle gängigen freien Hantelübungen beschreiben kann. Fragen zur Technik und zur Ausführung lassen sich häufig mit einem Vergleich der eigenen Hantelbahn mit einer geraden Linie entgegen der Schwerkraft beantworten. Manche Kapitel im Buch lesen sich eher wie eine Einführungsstunde Physik oder Mechanik. Aber der menschliche Körper besteht (etwas vereinfacht) eben auch nur aus Gelenken und Hebelarmen.

Some people are reluctant to admit they have too much weight on the bar, in the same way that they are likely to take too big an increase in weight each workout. The ego interferes with thinking, causing an attempt to handle weights that cannot be lifted with correct form.
